Based on first impressions, you probably wouldn‘t associate Marc Schmidt und Amadeus Tzamouranis with agriculture. The two Berliners – one of them Greek and in possession of a few olive trees, the other with time on his hands and a lot of ideas – come across as a bit mischevious.
“We simply want to build a bridge that until now hasn‘t really existed,“ explains Schmidt; Greece has the olives, Germany the demand for high- quality oil. The pair‘s oil, which clearly has more flavor than the stuff at the supermarket, comes in a relatively plain canister.
“It‘s all about the product, which is why we don‘t need some slick design with an Aphrodite statue." Because of this focus on the product, however, customers can buy it only from the co- founders themselves or at select retailers. (cr)
