Inga Akhvlediani hands out the menu as her mother, Rusudan Gorgiladze, stands nearby. The two queens of the kitchen at this Georgian restaurant, Schwiliko, go out of their way to ensure every guest feels welcome. Dishes celebrating a somewhat smaller version of a supra, a traditional feast, begin making their way to the table.
For the main course there’s the Schwiliko special, a veal dish served with fried potatoes, onions, Georgian spices and pomegranate. The supra holds special significance in Georgian culture, with eloquence and hospitality playing an outsized role — and on this gray December day, it’s a welcome change from the unpleasantness one usually finds on Schlesische Straße.
